Devastation in Haiti- Two Ways You Can Help!

January 13, 2010

Yesterday there was an absolutely devastating earthquake in Haiti that has killed thousands of people and left much of the capital in rubble. It is a tragedy that any country would have such a devastating disaster, but this is even worse in Haiti because of the abject poverty of the country. It is already the poorest country in the Western hemisphere.

What can we do to help?

1. Donate to organizations that are providing humanitarian relief. FCNL partners, the American Friends Service Committee and Outreach International, will be providing emergency relief in this crisis.

2. Encourage President Obama and Congress to act swiftly and designate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status, which would halt deportations and permit Haitians already in the United States to live and work here as Haiti responds to this devastating earthquake. Granting TPS would allow the Haitian government to invest its limited resources into rebuilding damaged infrastructure and offering emergency relief to its suffering people.

Let’s work together to help Haitians in their time of tremendous suffering!
